Out-of-School Care

Starting in September 2023, we will be offering licensed out-of-school care at:

  • Cedar Elementary
  • Georgia Park Elementary
  • Ocean Grove Elementary
  • Pinecrest Elementary
  • Ripple Rock Elementary
  • Sandowne Elementary

Children must attend the school in order to be considered for out-of-school care and the centres will offer a 1:12 adult to child ratio. Spaces are limited as licensing allows a maximum of 24 children in attendance at each centre, at any given time.

Hours of operation are before-school from 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and after-school from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Fees for the out-of-school care program are $10/day for before-school care, $25/day for after-school care, $35/day for both before- and after-school care, and $45/day for full-day (i.e. Pro-D Day) care. Unfortunately, childcare is not funded by the province and the program must operate on a cost-recovery basis as it cannot use funds from K-12 school funding. However, there is subsidy available through the from the provincial government.

Families are required to keep their child home when they are sick and will be charged for any days that their child is away. Parents may be called to pick-up their child if they are ill, even if they attended school that day.

If your child has an educational assistant (EA) during the school day, please note that they will not have a dedicated support during childcare unless families apply and receive approval through . EA supports are provided during the school day based on K-12 funding and as mentioned previously, childcare cannot use funds from K-12 school funding.

Priority is given to kindergarten students and children who will attend five-days a week, but part-time care applications are considered. If your child doesn't get into the childcare program, you will be informed and automatically be placed on the waitlist.

How do I apply for out-of-school care?

To apply for childcare download and complete the appropriate form for the childcare centre location that you would like your child to attend (found under 'Resources' on this page) and drop the completed form off at that location's school office.
